Marlborough vs Army

A close 3-2 victory at Marlborough last night. Martin Brown at 5 went down 3-0 against his experienced opponent but improved throughout the match. Warren Mitchell fought hard, but in the end was out run by his 17 year opposition losing 3-2. Good see youth coming through it the Wiltshire League. Chris O’Brien won 3-0 feeling guilty as his opponent was celebrating his 50th Birthday. Lenny Westover won at 2 with a consummate 3-0 victory. This left the match tied and left to Rich Green. Having gone 2-0 down, all looked lost, however despite hitting more tins than Chis O’Brien, he came back to win 3-2 and take the match for Army.

Marlborough 1 Vs Army 1st Team

The final Wiltshire League match of the season saw the Army Men’s team face Marlborough away. Needing 10 points to win the league and a player down the team we’re up against it. O’Brien was first on and somehow, using every part of the racket, secured a 3-0 win. Burke and Jones were next up both winning their first games. To ramp up the pressure they both then proceeded to lose their next two games, however with the league title on the line, they both upped their performance and secured the league with 3-2 wins. Palmer then stepped up in the final match and smoothly beat his opponent 3-0. An excellent result and some good battles to ensure Army were victorious in both halves of the season. Well done to all the players who have contributed throughout!

Army 1st Team Vs Cricklade

Last night saw a crucial top of the table clash with joint leaders, Cricklade.

The Army lads did themselves proud, bringing home a 16-6 win. The score line didn’t reflect how the close the fixture was and we did well to secure victory in the end.

No.1 Rich Green played reigning Wilts champion, James Ryan and lost 11-9 in the fifth; Nick Palmer took a game off an in-form Kev Barrett at No.5. In the middle order James Burke, Paul Jones and Lee Burnie all “did it in 3”.

This deprived the visitors of much needed points and places the Army 10 points clear at the top of Div 1 with 1 match remaining.
